Paul Stoddart began playing guitar when he was 12 studying under John Rice and began teaching at The Village School of Music in Libertyville, Illinois at age 14. In high school he played in rock groups Low Profile and Hit & Run at local venues.
He studied classical guitar under master musician Doug Anderson and then attended Berklee School of Music in Boston, studying jazz and rock styles of music. He graduated cum laude in 1989 with a major in Songwriting.
Since college, he has written, recorded, arranged, produced and performed music in Chicago, San Diego, Boston and Tampa Bay. Some of the rock bands he has directed and performed in are Graphix, Brain Pleasure, Strange But Few, Play It By Ear and Great Grooviness. He found a home in Tampa, Florida, and currently plays in The Summit Band, a 24-piece Sinatra-based orchestra.
For over 10 years, Paul taught rock school at the Patel Conservatory, a division of the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. Currently, he teaches intermediate and advanced guitar classes and private lessons.
Playing guitar in musical theater productions, including The Rocky Horror Show, Grease, Willie Wonka, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q and In The Heights, quenches Paul’s thirst for performing.
Paul is on staff as the lead guitarist at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, Florida, and he is at work recording his eighth solo album in his home studio in Tampa. His solo work has encompassed the styles of jazz, rock, classical, reggae,
